Bleparitis
What is blepharitis and what causes it?
It is a very common inflammatory disorder of the eyelid edges. It may be associated with some scalp conditions, such as very dry oily skin and dandruff.
What does it look like?
•The eyelid edges may be red
•Whitish scales may stick to the roots of eyelashes
•Eye may be burning, sore or itchy
How can I make it better?
You will need to remove all the crusts and debris from the edge of your eyelids and from between your eyelashes. To do this we recommend a product called ‘Lid-Care’ which is available from Schwarz. This contains a bottle of solution and 100 pads that are used to clean the eyelashes.
How do I use ‘Lid-Care’?
Remove a pad from the packaging and wet with the Lid-Care solution. Fold the pad over and rub the sides together to create a foam. In front of a well illuminated mirror, pull down the lower eye lid to expose the lid margin (see below). Rub the cleansing pad along the lower margin several times and discard the pad. Repeat for the upper margin and your other eye. The effectiveness of this treatment can be enhanced by hold a hot flannel against the closed eyelids for 1 minute before using Lid-Care.
What happens next?
Continue the treatment twice daily at first for a least two weeks, then less as it starts to get better. Treatment of this condition is long-term matter, and you may not see any improvement for several weeks, and you may always need to use Lid-Care occasionally to keep the symptoms under control.
