Eyecare FAQ’s

Why have an Eyetest? . . and how often should I have them tested?

Think of an Eyetest as an eye MOT – to make sure that your eyes are healthy and your vision is strong and consistent. Remember your eyes need to be looked after because you only get one pair!

You will probably know yourself whether your sight is fine or not. We can advise you whether spectacles are worthwhile or not, whether your driving vision is up to scratch and reassure that your eyes are healthy. Some eye problems develop without you being aware – make sure you a have a check-up.

Why do I need more regular eye test if I’m diabetic?

There are some eye conditions that can develop as part of your diabetes. These are mostly manageable problems, if spotted. We recommend a yearly eyetest for our diabetic clients, in addition to their routine camera screening.

This is free under the NHS.

Does my child need to see an Optometrist if they are getting their eyes tested at school?
Yes you child still needs an eye test. School checks are excellent in the Wrexham area, but some eye problems can still be missed. Our tests examine the vision, binocular state and health of the eyes.

It is never too early as we have special tests for very young children.

My eye is red or painful, or my vision has suddenly changed. What do I do?

We are accredited Welsh Eyecare Optometrists, acting as triage for the local eye department.

Please call us for an urgent appointment - we'll try and see you that day.

We can then examine your eyes and reassure you, ask the GP to prescribe drops or fast track you to the eye department, if necessary.
